War and Rumors of War
North Korea knows how to launch a full force threat campaign, but can it launch a missile all the way to the United States? At first the experts swore, “No, no way. North Korea doesn’t have that type of technology yet- those silly little North Koreans need to pack up their slingshots and leave Uncle Sam to all the nuclear warhead bench pressing.” Okay so that’s not exactly a verbatim quote, but that’s the lassize fair attitude that was first implicated in lieu of war threats from North Korea.
So why the animosity? Lets back up a bit to review what exactly has lead us to this point. The struggle of North Korea is long and heavily thwarted by the UN. Of course we don’t want dangerous dictators wielding nuclear firearms, but that doesn’t stop the impoverished nation of North Korea from trying to create weapons of mass destruction. In December 2012, Pyongyang (North Korea’s capital) launched a rocket that put a satellite into space, demonstrating that they were getting closer to long-range nuclear missile technology. Despite the demands of the UN, despite threats imposed by more powerful nations, North Korea has stubbornly continued it’s nuclear weapon and ballistics program. Further ignoring the widespread condemnation, North Korea followed through with a nuclear test in late February. As punishment, the UN has promised to enforce tough new sanctions against North Korea.
